My Sweet Valentine..a doll ornament~SOLD~

My goodness, where has the time gone! Valentine's Day is just a month away and I just had to create this special little girl. She measures just 6 inches tall from the top of her head to the bottom of her little dangle bead. I have painted two tiny hearts and some sweet swirls onto her bodice. I have also added some bits of vintage trims and lace along with vintage glass beads, after all a girl has to have her jewels! She also comes with her little painted black metal stand so she can stay on display all year long.

Claribel is a Izannah Walker inspired little girl. She measures about 10 1/2 inches tall. I created her dress from a salvaged petticoat and I just love it! My favorite color on these dolls is cream. Her bloomers and slip are created from vintage linen.
Claribel has been aged and has the appearance of being tucked away in a attic for several decades, just waiting for someone to find her and love her again! Her fingers are needle sculpted and she has seperately applied thumbs and you will find with true Izannah Walker dolls.

Good windy evening all! It is nice to have the campground closed as now I am creating full time again!

A lovely lady Tracy contacted me and asked if I would make sister dolls for her. One for herself and one for her sister Tara. She wants them to pass down through their families. How lovely! After Tara picked which dolls she wanted each of hers to look like and picked out the fabric for each, I got busy. What a joy it has been creating these little sweethearts. They will be making their journey home next week. Thank you so much Tara!

Prim's has arrived!

How exciting!! I so look forward to the newest issue of Prim's Magazine. Went to my mailbox and there it was, just waiting for me to quickly make a cup a tea and sit and visit with it! To my surprise a couple of my little stitcheries are in this issue! I had sent them along with some little dollies a few months back and had forgotten they had mentioned they were saving them for a later issue.

I am so excited about this issue because our group To Dwell In Primitive Thymes (TDIPT)is being featured in this issue. Some of our artist have been chosen to be in this issue and the rest in the new January issue. That is correct, now Prim's magazine will come out three times a year!! I am lucky enough to have one of my little dolls in the January issue.

I just love this magazine! So many different, very tallented artist are showcased here. I never get tired of looking at it over and over again.

Well..break time is over..back to sewing!!!

Sweet Achsah...SOLD

Well I am back! Had a little break from creating. Hubbys surgery went well and is on the mend. Thank you all for your kind well wishes and prayers, they are much appreciated.

I would like you to meet Achsah. She is a custom order doll for the nicest lady. Susan was given several diaries written by a lady named Achsah several years ago and would read them to her own children as they where growning up. Susan asked if I would make a little doll to place with the dear diaries. I was thrilled to do so! Susan also sent me a vintage peice of fabric that was in the family for a number of year and asked if I could incorporate it into her dress. I was happy to to that for her.

Achsah is about 10 inches tall and is an Izannah Walker inspired doll. I modeled her after my little Tempy and Beatrice, they sure look like sisters! I so enjoyed creating her...

A French Milliner's Head...

Good morning all! It is a very cold day here on the bay..only 7 degrees! Yikes! I am so thrilled to be invited to join TDIPT ( To Dwell In Primitive Thymes) website. What an honor to be among such tallented artists! This little beauty will be my first listing with them. She will be listed on the 14th of December at 9:00 pm along with a six inch doll I am currently working on. A couple weeks ago I was sorting through some old County Living magazines, I mean old! I started out looking for holiday recipes when I came across a picture of a living room. Sitting on a trunk was this beautiful French Milliner's head! I knew I had to make one.

French Milliner's heads were popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Milliners were found in every city and town. A hat was designed and created with the help of a "milliner's head." The milliner shaped, cut, pinned and fashioned the hat one the head. Then the finished hat was displayed in the shop.

A life-size head made of soft wood or papier-mache was used. Sometimes the top of the head was made of padded cloth so it was easier to pin the hat to the head. They usually measured fifteen inches tall, more life size.

Also on the back side of the head, down by the shoulder's there was a cut out made for storing scarves or jewelry for easy access when needed to decorate the head. They were sometimes lined with newspaper.

Now for my little creation..

I made this sweet French Milliner's head out of cloth, clay and wood. She measures only 7 inches tall. Hubby made a small wood box that I inset in the doll and lined with french newsprint. I used the same hair style as in the picture of the actual vintage head, I really love this look! She looks lovely tucked in with my other dolls and I almost kept her.

I have her pictured with Tempy (10 inch doll) and a framed needlework, that are not for sale, for size reference.

Juliet is a super tiny doll that is really a dolls doll. She measures only 3 inches! She sure was a labor of love involving readers, a magnifying glass and lots of patience! Don't let that shy little face fool ya, she is a spit fire! I some how don’t think she likes wearing dresses, happier in jeans. Pandora has a wild child look about her with her flowing hair and her pushed up sleeves, I just love that about her! Pandora measures about 10 inches tall. Just the right size to tuck in anywhere. She has hand molded dimensional hair which is one of my favorites to make.

Good evening all! I bet everyone is ready for Halloween!!! Well I have another little ragdoll that will be listed November 1st on The Primitive Gathering site..just click on the tab to the right of this page to visit.

This is Sweet Charity. She measures 10 inches tall and as with the original from 1892 she is a one piece doll, her legs and arms are not seperately attached. I did sew her joints at the hips and shoulders so she can sit or stand proped up. She is weighted and her face is inked in a warm chestnut brown ink, which give her a soft "faded" appearance which I dearly love.

Her dress is a muted barn red, much darker in person. Her bloomers are made from vintage fabric and her slip is from a vintage doll slip. I painted her little shoes and flowers at the top of each shoe then distressed them for a well worn, loved little doll.

Meet Eleanor Rigby...SOLD

Where has this summer gone!! I really can't wait for the 15th of October when we will finally be closed for the season and I can sew! I have been able to keep up with special order but that is about it. In a couple more weeks my sewing machine and clay will be my best friends once again..LOL!

I was looking a one of my favorite doll books and kept coming back to this little treasure, Polly Ann. She is a rag doll and dates from 1795 and now resides in the Rhode Island Historical Society in Providence, Rhode Island. She was always the Grandmother to all the other dolls in the family. I just love that about her! It is interesting that her facial features are inked and drawn in the same manner as the features of carved wooden dolls of that period, including her dotted eyebrows. I just had to recreate Polly Ann.

Meet Eleanor Rigby...yes, I know..hubby named her. I really think her name suits her. Eleanor measures about 12 inches from the top of her head to the bottom of her dress. She is heavily weighted so she sits wonderfully! I also added weight to her arms. As with Polly Ann she has NO legs and is a stump doll. Her dress is made from a lovely reproduction civil war print in mustard and chestnut brown. I have distressed the fabric to add age and softness that you find with antique dolls. I also added a false hem in a coordinating fabric. Her bonnet is in a matching print and I added a bit of vintage trim to her bonnet and the bodice of her dress along with a vintage glass bead. Her slip is made from a vintage doll slip and has also been aged.

As with Polly Ann, I inked Eleanor's facial features with black India ink. I love the sweet Grandmotherly expression it gives her.

A Doll's House...finally!

Good morning all...A friend and I went to a barn sale this past weekend. I was looking around waiting for someone to put down a old photo album he was looking at so I could get a look when I turned and saw this fabulous doll house! I went and got the owner and asked her if it was for sale and she said, hesitating, "yes" followed by " there are doors here some where"! I started looking and found them. I was afraid to ask again how much she wanted for it but I did. She then said "25 dollars?? I could not get my money out fast enough!!

I got it home and asked hubby if he could make a stand for it. We decided on a book shelf attached to the bottom of the doll house. This is a few pics of the progress. He still has some finish work to do on the bookcase part and I have tons of work on the house its self. I already have wallpaper, windows and a door that all fit PERFECTLY and tons of other stuff that I have been collecting over the years. This will be the perfect winter project for me to work on along with lots of tiny dolls!

Well..Millicent has been sitting on my desk since I created her. She kept telling me she did not like her dress. So this afternoon I redid parts that she did not like and I think we are both happier with the results. LOL! Just one of those things that nags you to death and you just have to fix it!

Good morning all..geez it has been so long since I have chatted with you! It has been so very busy this season here at the campground and we have had family visiting for the last 7 weeks, my Dad goes home on Thursday and I will miss him dearly.

I have been working on a few special orders in my spare time.LOLOLOL! This is sweet little Abigale and she is a 10 inch Izzy. She is at her new home in Australia with a sweet lady, thanks Linda! I had hoped that Linda would send her back but no such luck!LOL

I am so ready for winter and the coal stove blazing away..I know hit me with a hammer!LOL It has been so very hot here in upstate NY. I guess we are never happy with what Mother Nature throws at us.

Primitive Folk Art Pinkeep SOLD

I sure hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend! I am recovering nicely from surgery last week and I would like to thank everyone for the lovely cards and well wishes for my speedy recovery.

I was able to stitch this sweet little pinkeep while sitting around recovering. I used a canning jar zinc lid for the base and the motif is done in barn red, colonial blue and mustard. As usual little Temperance had to get in the picture and she is not included in the listing. Listing is for the pinkeep only. It is for sale now on The Primitive Gathering site. I also managed to get some doll bodies started so hopefully I will have a doll finished in a couple weeks. One day at a time...

Home from the hospital..

Well...after waking up last Wednesday night with a severe pain in my right side and throwing up several times hubby decided it was time for me to go to the ER. Long story short..I had my gallbladder removed. I came home Friday afternoon. Poor hubby has had to do my work as well as his here at the resort. I can't to any lifting or straining or vacuuming for two weeks till my appointment with the doctor. I think hubby has a new appreciation for my end of the work load with 8 motel rooms and 5 cottages to take care of between customers!!LOL

Today I did attempt a little cross stitch and am feeling much better each passing day. I really would like to get out side in this beautiful 80 degree weather and plant my veggie garden.....well not today I guess....

Good day all!! What a week..we open for the summer season tomorrow here at the campground and we have been busy putting up new doors on the motel and of course I get stuck painting all 9 of them!! It is ok ..I am so very ready for summer.

I did manage to get a sweet little sampler done in the last two weeks. Those tiny little stitches are getting harder and harder to see!!LOL. The black painted frame measures 8 1/2 x 6 1/2. It has a great ribbed effect. I did the early work style stitching on vintage linen with muted colors of barn red, colonial blue, chestnut and gray.

It looks so sweet with little Tempy who was kind enough to sit down next to the sampler, by the way Tempy is not included in the listing, just the sampler.

Good morning all...it is a beautiful day here in NY, the sun is out and the birds are singing!!

I have been in a sampler mood of late. My first love is early work samplers and I have been creating them for over 30 years. I just finished this sweet piece, stitched on vintage linen in muted shades. Emma Potters Practice Sampler. I love practice samplers, little bits here and there. I put this sampler in a beautiful vintage standing swivel frame that I have painted black and aged with crackle.

These standing frames are just wonderful to display with my dolls. This one is small enough to slip in anywhere. Emma's sampler will be listed on The Primitive Gathering website tonight. Remember I list on The Primitive Gathering website on the 1st and the 15th of each month.

I just love Izannah Walker dolls. Izannah Walker was the inspiration for my working with paper clay. I have created this antique inspired doll with Izannah in mind. This is Gwendolyn or Gwen as I have been calling her. She is such a shy, timid little soul. She measures about 10 and a half inches. I just love this size doll, they can fit anywhere!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

I was so honored when I was asked to join The Primitive Gathering! Such wonderful artists there, so in honor of my first listing I created Elizabeth. I have been calling her Lizzie. She is an Izannah Walker inspired doll and measures about 11 1/2 inches tall. She is wearing a beautiful dress in a reproduction civil war toile fabric in blue and light tan. I added a false hem in an coordinating blue and gold. She is weighted so she sits nicely, she is a charmer!

This is Sweet Annie.... I recreated her from an antique doll owned by a dear lady who gave me permission to recreate her, thanks Annie! She reminds me of an old german doll. I just love her... She is made of cloth and clay papier mache. She is 8 inches tall.

I just finished two Izannah Walker inspired Pincushion dolls. They measure just shy of 6 inches tall. They are weighted a bit and firmly stuff. They are functional pincushions or are just happy sitting on a shelf.

Serena is dressed in blue toile reproduction civil war fabric that is soo tiny and sweet. She is for sale now at our Kindred Sisters selling blog.

Good evening all..just thought I would share my newest little creations! They are the sweetest little girls! They are pendants made of paperclay and are weighted a bit. They measure just shy of 2 inches. They have been painted with quality artists paints and heavily aged with stain an crackle then sealed. They will come with three neck cords one in black, tan and medium brown. Each will be 36 inches long so you can cut them to your desired length.

They look just wonderful with a tee shirt and a great pair of jeans!

Good frosty morning all...it is 4 degrees now and our ice is on the bay. You know what that means..ice fishing!! We are now open for icefishing season so it is up at 5:30 to plow the snow and open the bait shop. I have a super hubby that gives me my precious time to work on my art. I have 8 things in the works and should have two finished by Tuesday. One will be for ebay and the other for our selling blog..Kindred Sisters Gathering Post blog. I will post pics of them here too. I am very excited about these new origional designs!

Good day all...This is Temperance, I call her Tempy for short. She is an Izannah Walker inspired doll measuring 10 inches tall. I have decide she is to live here with me..a Christmas gift to myself. It is funny..I always seem to keep the misfits, the little ones that are not quite right...after all someone has to love them! Little Tempy is not a misfit, I just can't seem to let her go...

I just finished my holiday baking to send along to my parents in Tennessee. They so look forward to the goody box as they don't bake any longer. Getting ready for my brother's visit on Monday. Watching the ice form on the bay...

I have some interesting ideas for the next years dolls and I hope you will stop often to see the little creations.

This is Marilla, she is 6 inches tall and so sweet. She will be on ebay tonight along with her little display room box that hubby and I made over the last two weeks. I have designed five more larger room boxes that hubby is working on now to include a kitchen, garden shed, parlor, patio.... We had such a fun time working on this little project.
It measures 10 inches tall, made of wood with mitered window trim inside and out. I papered and painted, put up a chair rail. Her address is IW birth year. This is such a charming set. They will be listed on ebay tonight..

Good morning! Yes, I am crazy! This is Meg..she is only 3 inches tall. I can't tell you how long it took me to create her but I loved every minute but for turning out her little arms and legs! You don't do that after a pot of coffee!

Now..these are not your grandma's clothespin dolls!!LOL Although they may be her clothespins!

Here are my two ornaments/dolls. This is Nell and Thea. They measure about 5 inches and can sit on a limb on your Christmas tree or on the custom stand included with them.

I hand molded clay onto a vintage old style clothespin. Their arms are cloth and bloomers and shoes are painted. No glue has been used on these little cuties.

Here are the sister's, Milly and Tilly! I had the urge to make a couple rags dolls. I have been so busy with the Izannah Walker style dolly's, I miss making these little treasures. They are filled with clean fabric scraps and have really worn out dresses and little stitched faces. I will be listing a couple on the ksgpshoppes website on the 15th.

My parents will be flying in on Tuesday and I am very excited to be spending two weeks with them. They are 72 and I don't know how long they will be able to travel so I am greatful for each year they are able to visit.
